Description of position:

West Physics has an immediate opening for a Radiation Therapy Medical Physicist based in the Atlanta, GA metropolitan area. This position requires a solid clinical background in therapy medical physics, a strong interest and aptitude for learning, and a can-do attitude with an excellent work ethic. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership, communication, and management skills. This position is best suited for someone with excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently as well as on a project team, and strong technical proficiency. The ability to exercise a high degree of responsibility and autonomy (once trained) is integral to this position. This position may require occasional travel. Geographic flexibility (without changing employers!) is an option at West Physics. Primary Responsibilities:

• Calibration of treatment delivery, treatment planning and treatment simulation equipment
• Provide technical oversight to the clinical process including treatment delivery, treatment planning and simulation
• Integrate into various practice settings and locations including small community hospitals to large medical facilities
• Ability to adapt to varying designs and manufactures of radiation therapy technologies
• Perform daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly routine checks on all radiation treatment machines as well as supervision of the quality assurance program of all department equipment
• Occasionally assist in simulations, image-guided planning and data management
• Use data from CT, MRI, PET-CT and simulations to develop high-quality treatment plans
• Ensure the accuracy of treatment plans and documentation for various therapies, including: Linac, LDR and HDR Brachytherapy, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, Respiratory-gated treatments and SRS
• Perform and supervise patient specific quality assurance
• Perform dosimetry review, worker and patient dose estimates, fetal dose estimates, and conduct dose investigations and ALARA reviews. Assist in developing treatment planning protocols and delivery methods
• Perform and analyze beam data measurements for radiation treatment machines
• Verify input of beam data into the treatment planning system and support safe and effective treatment delivery
• Conduct post-maintenance quality assurance for treatment machines in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements
• Perform chart checks including prescription use, dose delivery and treatment course completion
• Occasionally participate in weekly chart rounds, CQI meetings, and other required team discussions
• Assist RSO with executing Radiation Safety Program protocols
• Ensure compliance with all radiation safety standards and licensing regulations
• Assist with annual calibration of radiation therapy delivery equipment
• Provide general medical physics support assisting in the simulation, planning and delivery processes
• Applicant must have a valid U.S. Driver's License
• Applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S .

Prerequisites:

• Minimum Master’s degree in Medical Physics or a physics-related discipline
• Completion of a CAMPEP-accredited residency program
• Board certified (or eligibility) by one of the following:
• American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics
• American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Radiation Oncology Physics
• Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) Licensure
• Must maintain accreditation status through required continuous education requirements
• Minimum of 2 years of recent documented experience (within the last 7 years) as a Therapeutic Medical Physicist in a hospital setting
• At least 1 year of experience (within the last 3 years) providing support for Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)
• Experience with Varian or Elekta Linac equipment
• REQUIRED: Current Authorized Medical Physicist (AMP) on a radioactive materials license for HDR or immediately eligible (current preceptor within 7 years)
• PREFERRED : Current Authorized Medical Physicist (AMP) on a radioactive materials license for seeds (permanent and temporary implants) or immediately eligible (current preceptor within 7 years)
• Familiarity with various software providing offline contouring and deformable registration functions
• Solid foundation in radiation physics, radiation biology, electronics, and other areas relevant to equipment quality assurance testing
• The capability to work independently and to exhibit intellectual flexibility
• Candidate must be willing and open to be trained on new opportunities and activities to enhance their technical skill set
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
• Applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• PREFERRED : Listed as an Authorized Medical Physicist on a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or agreement state license within the last 7 years.
• PREFERRED : Brachytherapy experience.
• PREFERRED : High-level interpersonal skills, including the ability to make presentations to large groups.
• Other related duties as needed.
