Reports to: Production Supervisor or Bindery Manager
Location: On-site

Summary:

The Perfect Binder Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining perfect binding machines used to assemble printed materials such as books, catalogs, and manuals. This role ensures all products meet quality standards, deadlines, and client specifications while maintaining safe and efficient operation of the bindery equipment.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in bookbinding or finishing operations and pays close attention to detail, quality, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Set up, adjust, and operate perfect binding machines (e.g., Muller Martini, Horizon, Kolbus, etc.) for various book sizes and thicknesses.
•    Read and interpret job tickets, specifications, and production schedules to determine machine setup requirements.
•    Monitor the production process to ensure consistent quality, alignment, and glue application.
•    Troubleshoot mechanical or quality issues and make necessary machine adjustments.
•    Conduct quality checks, including trimming, spine alignment, and page counts.
•    Maintain equipment cleanliness, lubrication, and perform basic preventative maintenance.
•    Assist with other finishing equipment such as trimmers, stackers, and gatherers as needed.
•    Collaborate with production teams to meet daily output goals and deadlines.
•    Follow all safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications:
•    High school diploma or equivalent required.
•    Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating a perfect binder or similar finishing equipment preferred.
•    Mechanical aptitude and understanding of bindery or printing processes.
•    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
•    Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
•    Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
•    Willingness to work overtime or different shifts as production requires.

Work Environment:
•    Fast-paced printing or finishing production area.
•    Exposure to machinery noise, paper dust, and glue fumes (with safety equipment provided).
•    Requires adherence to PPE and safety procedures at all times.
