Job Description

Our client, a leading industrial and specialty construction contractor, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their growing Lancaster, PA team.

As a Payroll Specialist, you’ll ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for hourly employees across multiple branches, including union and non-union staff, while maintaining strong communication with branch managers and field teams. You’ll manage payroll for 2–3 branches independently, including multi-state operations, balancing data entry, reporting, and administrative responsibilities, while supporting the overall payroll team during a period of growth and expansion. This role is heavily data-focused but also requires collaboration with HR and field staff to resolve payroll questions and maintain compliance.

This position is open due to healthy company growth and a recent acquisition, providing stability and opportunities for professional development. With a hybrid work schedule, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a detail-oriented, collaborative environment and is ready to take ownership of multi-branch payroll operations.

If you have 2+ years of payroll experience, enjoy problem-solving and data management, and want a role that combines independent responsibility with team collaboration, this is an excellent opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly payroll for hourly employees, ensuring accuracy of wages, taxes, benefits, and deductions
  • Administer timekeeping systems and provide guidance to field staff on proper use
  • Maintain employee payroll records and update information in payroll software
  • Handle voluntary and involuntary deductions; transmit files and payments to appropriate agencies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including certified payroll for union employees
  • Reconcile union remittance payments to the general ledger on a monthly basis
  • Prepare and submit state and local payroll tax returns, including ACH payments
  • Assist in payroll tax registrations for new states and maintain accurate unemployment rates
  • Support payroll audits for union, financial, and workers’ compensation purposes
  • Communicate effectively with branch managers regarding payroll schedules, changes, and issue resolution
  • Manage multiple branches independently, adjusting workload based on branch size and payroll needs
  • Collaborate with HR and payroll team members to ensure coordinated benefits, deductions, and compliance

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience, ideally for hourly employees
  • Multi-state payroll experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel required
  • Familiarity with Oracle payroll systems a plus, but not required
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with branch managers and field staff
  • High school diploma required; further education a plus
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and grow

Salary: $60,000 – $65,000 + annual discretionary bonus

Hours : 8:30am-5pm

Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote

Location: Lancaster, PA

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K with match, PTO, discretionary bonus eligibility, and more.
